- Student-facing support and coaching for the broad student community who use and need the Printshop support for prototyping their course work, theses and other project
- Operate and maintain 3D printers and laser cutters, oversee related tools, and ensure workshop services run smoothly.
- Act as the senior staff member for the Printshop, coordinating and training staff (including Teaching Assistants), and advising the broader Aalto community in prototyping and manufacturing methods.
- Provide expert guidance in Computer-Aided Design (CAD), helping users troubleshoot file preparation, printer settings, and post-processing of finished parts.
- Collaborate with teaching staff to integrate workshop technologies into coursework and hands-on learning experiences.
- Develop Design Factory services, inventory, and protocols to advance Aalto DF’s additive manufacturing capabilities.
- Ensure a safe, organized, and well-maintained workshop environment in the DF labs, including stock management and upkeep of tools.
- Communicate the workshop’s expertise to users, facilitate lectures or workshops, and present best practices for using Printshop technologies.
- Participate in Design Factory joint operations and development, collaborating with workshop staff, teachers, researchers and other stakeholders
- Expertise in additive manufacturing (FDM and SLS 3D printing), laser cutting, and a wide range of prototyping and fabrication tools. Expertise in digital prototyping, AR, VR and AI are considered a benefit, as we are looking to develop our prototyping support further in these areas.
- Proven experience supporting and training others - especially within educational or multidisciplinary settings. Experience in interacting with students - listening, advising, encouraging, and assisting them is considered a benefit.
- Strong background in CAD software and translating user needs into manufacturable designs.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to supervise team members and coordinate workshop activities.
- Willingness, readiness, and ability to continuously learn new skills and the capacity to proactively identify opportunities for improvement in workshop services, workflows, and facilities.
- An academic background or extensive practical experience in an artisanal, engineering, or creative technical field.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English, with fluency in Finnish and Swedish considered a benefit
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field
