Offer DescriptionDo you want to be involved in creating the school of the future and solving the core issues of learning?The Learning Analytics Research Institute (TRILA) of the University of Turku is looking for 2-4 postdoctoral researchers or Senior Researcher Fellows for a four-year fixed-term employment (1.5.2024 - 30.4.2028) funded by the EDUCA flagship project. The position is expected to begin in May-June 2024 or upon an agreement. The Academy of Finland funds Future of Education (EDUCA) flagship, which aims is to build an education ecosystem that produces an understanding of learning and the use of technology in teaching. The duration of the EDUCA project is 4+4 years. Using a multidisciplinary ecosystem, a data infrastructure is built to combine theoretical and multi-method expertise in education, psychology, learning analytics, sociology and economics, and to benefit from extensive longitudinal and register data. The flagship will strengthen the research basis of educational policy decisions and experiments, increase understanding of optimal learning situations and attachment to education, as well as research knowledge of social and individual learning processes, the competence of teachers and leaders, as well as increasing understanding of scalable educational technology solutions and learning environments. The consortium consists of the universities of Jyväskylä, Helsinki, Turku and Aalto.Research areas applicable to the EDUCA research programme include learning analytics, computer science, information technology, mathematics, statistics, educational science, psychology, cognitive science, linguistics or other applicable field. The main themes of the programme are: * Educational experiments, reforms and interventions (especially educational policy reforms and the effectiveness of RCT interventions),
  • Variation in learning and support for learning (individual, group, kindergarten/school, municipality and regional level reviews),
  • Scalable digital solutions for learning and teaching (especially learning variation and learning analytics to support learning),
  • Strengthening the competence of teachers and principals and
  • Data infrastructure as part of the EDUCA ecosystem.

Who we are looking forThe person selected for the position of Postdoctoral Researcher shall have
  • Ph.D. in a field suitable for research themes (learning analytics, computer science, computer science, mathematics, statistics, educational sciences, cognitive science, psychology, linguistics or other applicable field).
  • Previous experience in research methods related to the production and processing of large datasets.
  • Experience in research/development work related to electronic learning environments and data analytics consider as a benefit.
  • Good writing and communication skills in English.

According to the rules of procedure a Postdoctoral Researcher is required to have a doctoral degree and the ability to conduct independent scientific work as well as having the necessary teaching skills. Salary and trial periodThe salary is determined in accordance with the university salary system for teaching and research personnel. The salary of a Postdoctoral Researcher is at levels 4-6, and the job-specific salary element is 2775,28-3747,44 euros per month. The salary of a Senior Research Fellow is at levels 5-7, and the job-specific salary element is 3213,55-4320,23 euros per month. In addition, a personal salary element will be paid. The personal salary element (up to 50 %) which is normally between 6 and 19% of the job-specific salary for a new employee. Depending on previous experience and expertise, the salary at the beginning of the postdoctoral research position is approximately 3 050 - 3 800 euros per month and that of Senior Researcher Sr. 3 500-4 500 euros per month.A six months trial period applies to the position.How to applyIn your application, please include
