As a Flight Software Automation Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring the reliability and performance of the software that powers our spacecraft. This position is based at our headquarters in Espoo, Finland.Our team develops and maintains the embedded software that enables ICEYE’s satellites to operate effectively. This includes managing onboard activities such as:
  • Data processing
  • Power management
  • Ground communications
  • Propulsion control
  • Spacecraft health and safety monitoring
You will work with technologies including Embedded Linux, ARM-based microcontrollers, SoCs, and RTOS to design, develop and run automation procedures. At ICEYE we approach testing and quality assurance with a unique mix of automation, telemetry and manual testing.This role is crucial to ensuring that our team continues to deliver software meeting the rigorous standards required for space missions. The role involves deep collaboration with systems, hardware, simulation, and mission operations teams.Responsibilities:
  • Execute and automate pre-flight validation checklists across mission phases, ensuring satellite software integrity from integration to launch readiness.
  • Triage and resolve in-flight anomalies by analyzing telemetry and logs and coordinating with various engineering teams.
  • Design and maintain regression tests and system-level tests of embedded systems to catch issues early and prevent their occurrence in orbit.
  • Supporting the team in maintaining our HIL (hardware-in-the-loop), SIL (software-in-the-loop), simulation testing infrastructure. Develop test methods that increase our automation coverage and release confidence of satellite software.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining operational procedures, checklists, and documentation.

  • Experience in test automation, with a strong ability to design and implement test cases for embedded Linux systems.
  • Proficient in Python and shell scripting in Linux-based environments.
  • Experience working with safety critical software, for example autonomous systems, IoT, GNSS, algorithm development, scientific computing, robotics, automotive, avionics.
  • Having been working with test automation frameworks in the past, including CI/CD tools such as Github Actions.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken.

  • Gross salary range for this position is 5700-6000 euros per month contingent on your experience level, and will be negotiated individually.
