Lead Data Engineer - Azure & DataBricksLocation: Helsinki (Hybrid)About the CompanyI am now working a SaaS provider with a strong focus on data-driven decision making. The mission is to help customers unlock the true value hidden in their data by giving them the tools, platforms, and insight needed to make better, faster, and more confident decisions.Data is at the core of everything we do - both internally and in how we support our customers.The RoleI am looking for a Lead Data Engineer to take a central role in the design, development, and leadership of our cloud-based data platform.This position combines hands-on technical delivery with people leadership, project ownership, and a clear pathway toward a formal management role.You will act as a technical authority within the team while also helping to shape how the data engineering function grows over time.Key ResponsibilitiesHands-on Data Engineering*Lead the design, build, and evolution of scalable data pipelines and platforms using Azure data services
*Work extensively with Azure Databricks for data processing and analytics
*Drive architectural decisions, data modelling standards, and engineering best practices
*Ensure high standards for data quality, reliability, performance, and securityTechnical & People Leadership*Take ownership of data engineering projects end to end
*Act as a mentor and technical leader for other data engineers
*Support planning, estimation, and prioritisation of engineering work
*Collaborate closely with product, analytics, and business stakeholdersTeam Growth & Management Potential*Play an active role in recruitment and onboarding of future team members
*Help define team structure, processes, and ways of working
*Demonstrate leadership capability with a clear opportunity to grow into a Data Engineering Manager or Team Lead roleWhat We're Looking For*Strong experience in a Lead or Senior Data Engineer role
*Hands-on expertise with Azure data services, including Databricks
*Deep understanding of modern data architectures and cloud-based analytics platforms
*Proven experience leading projects and mentoring engineers
*Motivation to take on people leadership and team-building responsibilities
*Strong communication skills and a collaborative, pragmatic mindset
