Offer DescriptionThe University of Helsinki International trainee programme is open to all international students enrolled in a University of Helsinki master's programme.The Finnish University Partnership for International Development, UniPID, is a network of nine (9) Finnish universities established in 2002. The Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry at the University of Helsinki coordinates the network. UniPID seeks to advance universities' global responsibility and to strengthen their response to global challenges. As part of its activities, UniPID offers a variety of support services for interdisciplinary studies and research on international sustainable development. UniPID also facilitates universities' societal impact and partnerships related to global challenges and development issues.UniPID supports higher education institutions in pursuing sustainable development pathways by bringing Global South perspectives and partnerships into the three higher education pillars: education, research, and societal impact activities.UniPID strengthens and diversifies member universities' curricula and educational capacity in global development issues by coordinating a joint virtual studies minor programme in sustainable development. UniPID supports and organizes seminars and other events related to themes of global responsibility and higher education cooperation. UniPID supports research cooperation and networking between member universities and with international partners at both the institutional and individual researcher level.UniPID also aims to impact the national and international research agenda and funding priorities. Finnish researchers' international research cooperation and participation in development policy and research policy dialogue are enhanced particularly through externally funded projects. Currently, UniPID is a Work Package leader in two Horizon 2020/Europe funded projects: LEAP-RE and CEA-FIRST.UniPID aims to increase the importance of higher education in facing global challenges and to enhance the role of higher education institutions in global sustainable development. UniPID seeks to strengthen institutional partnerships and communication between member universities and with other national and international stakeholders.More information on UniPID: .Key Responsibilities:The specific tasks of the trainee will depend on the UniPID activities of the moment, but also on the trainee's own background and interests. The trainee will be offered one main task to contribute to a certain UniPID activity or objective, but also some smaller tasks, offering the intern a good vantage point of the whole spectrum of work of a university network in the field of global development.The tasks may include:
  • Assisting in the coordination and development of UniPID's Virtual Studies Programme and other tasks related to the position.
  • Supporting the coordination and development of EU-funded projects.
  • Assisting the Communications Coordination. This may include managing social media channels, development of newsletters, and designing communications materials.
  • Assisting in organizing UniPID events and/or UniPID project activities
  • Writing reports on a specific topic of interest for UniPID, guided by the student's own research interest
  • Other tasks related to the UniPID Coordination Unit duties.
The person we are looking for:To succeed in the traineeship, a willingness to learn, interest in global development and in science and cooperation around topics of development cooperation, a good command of English, written and oral communication skills as well as good teamwork and organizational skills are expected.The duration of a traineeship is from 1 September to 31 December 2024 (four months) of part-time (50%) work, leaving time for studies as well.
